Honoring a Friend on Memorial Day

By Martha Bush American_Flag

Hello my Friends: I have a confession to make.

Each Monday, I am scheduled to write a post on Lynn Donovan's Ministries. But, I decided not to post on Monday, May 31st. Why?  It is Memorial Day, and I had come to the conclusion that people would be busy with barbeques, or attending parades and other ceremonies. So, why bother to write - no one reads on a holiday, right? Why should I waste my time writing out a blog post.

And then, it was as though I heard a voice from my past whispering to me, "Can't you just mention my name? After all, I gave my life for your freedom."

And so, I knew I had to write and call out the name Mike Bowen, killed in Viet Nam War from Donalsonville, Georgia.

Mike, my husband, and I went to church together as teenagers. When we decided to get married, we asked Mike to be in our wedding. Just a few short years later, he was killed in the Viet Nam War. We went onto to have a long marriage with children and grandchildren, but Mike was robbed of all of that while fighting for our freedom. And so, I honor him today by taking the time to mention his name publicly.

If you are ever in Washington, D.C., go by the Viet Nam Memorial Wall, and you will see his name on the wall. You might also see the name of someone you know.

But just for now, should you happen to read this blog long after the holiday has passed, why not type in the comments the name of someone you personally know who was killed in one of the wars. That is the least we can do to give them the honor they so deserve.

Blessings to you and your family.
